Cameroon ACREGIR Project Inception Workshop on Climate Resilience and Natural Resource Management - October 27, 2022

The ACREGIR project, formally titled "Increasing the resilience of local communities to climate change through youth entrepreneurship and integrated management of natural resources," held its inception workshop on October 27, 2022, in Garoua, Cameroon. The project is a cooperation between Cameroon (specifically the Ministry of Environment, Protection of Nature and Sustainable Development - MINEPDED), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), and the Adaptation Fund. The overall objective is to enhance the resilience of local communities to climate change through the promotion of resilient livelihoods and integrated natural resources management. This objective is to be achieved through three key outcomes: 1) Climate-proofing institutional frameworks and local development plans at regional and local levels; 2) Strengthening the resilience of ecosystems to climate change through improved monitoring and knowledge of their status and vulnerability; and 3) Promoting the sustainable management of natural resources and ecosystems, which is expected to lead to climate-resilient ecosystems, the creation of green jobs for youth and women, and the establishment of resilient livelihoods. The project's scope covers local communities, natural resource management, ecosystems, youth entrepreneurship, and institutional/planning frameworks within Cameroon, with specific reference made to areas potentially including Waza, Benoue, and Kimbi-Fungom National Parks in the context of ecosystem presentations during the workshop. The inception workshop marked a key date in the project's initiation phase, but specific project deadlines or compliance dates beyond this launch event are not detailed in the provided text. No specific regulations or statutes are named.
